Spring Has Sprung

We gather once again around the happenings of Potter’s Farm. It’s spring…at last! The snow is finally receding after some warm and rainy days. The Washburn area received a record level snowfall this past winter, breaking the record by 30 inches.

Here’s the latest things happening at the Farm:

  • On a snowy weekend in April, with 6-12 inches of snow still covering the land, the current and new Board Members gathered at Potter’s Farm for our annual meeting. We bid adieu to Nora Knapik and welcomed Linda Ravenwind back to the fold. We were supported on the journey with guidance and expertise from Diana Allen. We discovered new ways of interrelating with each other and our community. And we spent time rekindling our “central fire.”

Diana Allen was invited to support our meeting this year as we look deeper into all possibilities of relationship to one another, the One Heart Circle community and our greater Potter’s Farm community.

As we have been seeking new Board members for some time, we wanted the opportunity to look deeply at our current Board dynamic and the history of the Potter’s Farm Board with hopes of discovering how we can renew and gather the energy for more people to join us as stewards of the land. Diana has some experience in working with teams and uncovered patterns that we might not be fully conscious of. With her guidance, we believe we will be moving forward more consciously as a collective.

Diana introduced the concept of the Central Fire. The Central Fire is a metaphor about our purpose as a board. Feeding the fire gives us focus and is designed for members to remind one another when they might be too far away from the fire and need to come back. The Board agreed our “fire” is to let “nature nurture you.” We want to keep this fire bright so in years to come the land is there to nurture those who feel called.

In addition to these fun and life-giving conversations, we also conducted the usual business of electing and reelecting our officers and board members.  Lauranne Bailey was re-elected as our president for one more year. Returning board member Ravenwind accepted the position of Vice President and role of Caretaker Liaison, Raven Bailey will continue as the Secretary, and Bob Bowman will remain in the Treasurer position for another year. Heather Pippin will continue as a board member at large.

We had a check in with our caretakers. We approved this year’s budget. We worked on the plans for Love the Farm weekend.  We strategized about what is coming and how to continue to grow the Farm for the next seven generations. We are excited to be here in service and as always, we were renewed by our time on the Land.

  • Many thanks to Nora Knapik for her tenure as a Board Member. She served from 2017 to 2023 and held officer roles as President and Secretary. She served on many working groups to help improve the Farm and has been our Caretaker Liaison.Nora will spend more time on jail ministry now. Called Circles of Support, Nora will help those just released from jail in easing their transition. We are grateful for her years of service and on-going support of Potter’s Farm. We will miss you!

  • Prayer Dance Ceremony June 16-25, 2023
Love the Farm Weekend July 28-30, 2023

This is always a fun way to be with your People and enjoy a visit to the Farm. The Board hosts all those who come to share in the projects. Food and lodging is free. This year our main project is replacing the yurt siding. If you have Yurt-related experience, we would love to hear from you as we are looking for someone to Point this project. Other smaller projects are always available and all skill-levels are welcomed and appreciated. Plan to join us!

  • Haven’t booked a summer playtime getaway yet? Would you like to schedule a friends weekend or looking for an affordable escape for family with the kids? Our calendar has openings for you to book a private retreat. Check our calendar for availability.

As we gather ‘round the central fire, we invite you to consider how you might support the land and the Board of Potter’s Farm. Yes, you could become a Board Member or perhaps you have special skills and talents that would benefit upcoming projects. If you have the desire, we likely have a matching need.

And, if you haven’t been here lately--come! Let nature nurture you.
