When the People Step In

Potter’s Farm is vibrant with energy. We have hosted many large and small group events and several private retreats over the summer. We are appreciative of all who are coming and for all who will be coming.

  • Love the Farm rocked the northwoods once again. There were 11 “sacred stars” who helped us shine up the Farm with more beauty and improvements. The event was guided by three of our board members.

The main project of the weekend was putting siding on the overhang of the front door to create beauty and a more finished look. After sourcing some additional materials, the project was 85% completed on Saturday.

The People's Fire was beautified and the pit filled in to offer a more inviting fire when it is used. Organizational structures to help keep our community chairs and the small plastic tables organized in the back of the barn were created. Other minor clean up projects of the Barn also occurred.

Painting of the trim around the dining room door and all the window frames on the south and east side of the house took place. The screens were cleaned before being put back in place. Some much needed window cleaning in the kitchen and dining room also occurred along with some sprucing up of the Fairy Garden.

Other organizational jobs in the house were completed by board members.

We had a lovely inaugural fire at the new and improved People's Fire Saturday night. We also inaugurated the new chairs sourced for the Farm. Some musical instruments came out and we had an impromptu karaoke sing-a-long. It was a great night for watching the meteor shower as well so a contingency headed to the meadow for some awesome star gazing. There was spaciousness for story telling. The elders present regaled us with the origin stories of Potter’s Farm. Feedback received from the People is that they are very impressed with the work the Board is doing to care for and sustain the Farm.

Sunday the portico project was completed. The other teams worked on eradication of sumac from the medicine garden, removal of small stumps and other trimming on the path/medicine wheel/meadow, and removal of vines growing on the white pines along the meadow that inhibit their potential health.Participants enjoyed delicious and healthy meals along with some special treats. As is our intention, we got lots done and we had fun too!! And all were fed by the experience of being together. A first time participant said: “I had so much fun. I laughed and got to know people better as well as share myself and my skills. I didn’t have to do dishes and I didn’t have to pay for the ceremony. Who could ask for more?!”

We are grateful for all who came to offer their love and support to the Farm. Don’t miss it next year! In exchange for your help with projects, the Board offers the weekend free of charge to attendees. Love the Farm 2023 will be held July 28-30. Mark your calendars now!

Autumn is the mellower season, and what we lose in flowers we more than gain in fruits.
