OVERVIEW
Potter's Farm is a non-profit educational and spiritual retreat center
in the northern woods near Lake Superior. The Farm is here to cultivate
a life of the spirit among our community and guests through the land
and spirit of the Farm. The buildings and land of Potter's Farm are used for small conferences, meetings and group events within a retreat setting. We are open to all groups and individuals that share the deep respect for all life that we cultivate and work towards here at the Farm. Groups come from all backgrounds, spiritual and secular, ranging in size from five to fifty. Accommodations comfortably sleep eighteen adults. Potter's Farm is located on a hill a mile and a half from Lake Superior and the nearby town of Washburn. The area is loosely bordered by the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest and the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore. In season, the area is rich in berries, apples, hiking, deep-water sailing, sea kayaking, downhill and cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, mountain and road biking, as well as a rich collection of bed-and-breakfast inns. The Anishinabe (Ojibwa) people are the original inhabitants of the area, including nearby Madeline Island, and maintain a strong spiritual and social presence within the community. All of the buildings at Potter's Farm were built during the late American Craftsman Period, from 1912 to 1920; they include a two-story frame farmhouse, a small cabin, a stone ice-house converted to a bathhouse, and a large all-stone barn. Two tipis are also available for summer sleeping. About two-thirds of the Farm's fields have been reforested; the remainder is maintained as field. |
